›How are prayer times calculated?
Prayer times are calculated from the sun's position for your latitude and longitude using standard methods such as the University of Islamic Sciences Karachi, Umm al-Qura, Muslim World League and ISNA.
›What is the difference between Hanafi and Shafi Asr?
In the Hanafi method Asr starts when an object's shadow is twice its length (plus the noon shadow), so Asr is later. Shafi, Maliki and Hanbali use once the length, so Asr is earlier.
›Which method should I use?
Use the method followed by mosques in your country. Pakistan, India and Bangladesh usually use Karachi; Saudi Arabia uses Umm al-Qura; North America often uses ISNA.
